The First Year 41

Jack bought really expensive health insurance after me, my friends and family slammed him for buying a 3,500 dollar TV but didn't have insurance for his family. Little did Jack know I had health insurance for low income poeple that I applied for, for myself and Ari. If he knew he would be appauled that I had insurance for poor people even though he really couldn't afford the things he was buying. How he had such a big line of credit we'll never know.

I found a an awesome Russian woman doctor who said she did not have to give me a hysterectomy and that she would just take out the fibroids. I told her that eight doctors already told me that I needed a hysterectomy and she said that was ridiculous! She said that anyone who said I needed a hysterectomy was just lazy and greedy. We scheduled the operation for a month away.

Now the trouble was, Jack hadn't payed the premium on the health insurance and it was frozen until he made a payment. The poor people's insurance didn't cover a doctor like that so I was screwed. Jack was running around agitited trying to juggle bills. He said noone wanted to do business with him, investors were pulling out. He blamed his friend who he hired as CEO, said it was his fault. He didn't realize it was happening because he was ill and needed help.

The First Year 40

Nans took off at about ninety miles an hour, at least that's what it looked like. I didn't think a power scooter could go so fast. There were hundreds of people walking on the boardwalk, women, elderly people, small children. She didn't care, she just peeled out and headed straight for the Trump Tower. Samara stared in horror as people jumped out of her way, some screaming others cursing her, damning her to hell. I watched the scooter until I could see it no more. Someone asked me if i was with her. "Certainly not" I said.

The First Year 39

My friend Samara came to stay with us for awhile. She helped me with Ariel and we went for walks and ate lunch every day on Main Street. She was so helpful to me and we had fun. I even agreed to go with Nans to Atlantic City on one of her group bus trips if Samara would come with me. The bus was filled with compulsive gamblers like Nans over the age of sixty five. Somehow Nans managed to take the longest time getting on the bus and the longest time getting off. As the the bus driver helped her down the stairs she moaned at the top of her lungs.

"Ooohhhhh, ooooh, ooooooooooo, my knee, oooooooh ooooh"

Then it took several people to get her power scooter from the lugguage deptartment, then she had to be hoisted on, (another 20 minutes.)
Now the boardwalk of Atlantic City looks like this, except picture it in the summertime with hundreds of people walking across it. Does any body see where I am going with this? picture crowded boardwalk,  Nans and a power scooter.

The First Year 38

I had to admit there were people calling who were interested in Jack and his company. Even executives from Bank of America. And someone was giving him huge lines of credit. But who? Bills were going unpaid, money would run out then appear again. Investors would call and arrange meetings and Jack couldn't get out of bed. His pressure was high and he had migraines. He said as soon as he closed a deal he would lose weight. One day he went into the basement and got on the treadmill. He must have been going ninety miles an hour when I found him. "Jack get off that treadmill! You're going too fast!" i was afraid he was going to have a heart attack. he was wearing a bright green sweat suit that was bit too small. Perhaps it looked okay fifty pounds ago but now he looked like a giant frog speeding on a tread mill. I wanted to laugh but I really should have been crying. I threatened to unplug the treadmill if he didn't slow down. Once he decreased the speed I spun on my heels and went to do the laundry.

The First year 37

Jack wasn't doing well, he seemed to be getting more and more depressed, less able to get out of bed. His depression meant twinkie sales were up but that didn't help my case. He kept saying there was going to be a recession in the economy, that it was going to hit any minute. People's houses were going to foreclose and the banks would not be able to handle the loss.  He said if he got funding in time he could stop it, he said his idea could stop the economic recession. I told him that was ridiculous, there would be no recession. I told him I was sick of hearing him talk and talk. A recession of that magnitude? how ridiculous, I thought.

The First Year 36

Jack was always writing notes for his business on pieces of a napkin or on paper plates. He would use pieces of old mail, coupons or anything he could find. Why he didn't use his computer or even a notebook was beyond me. Then he would read the notes to his friend to transcribe. Sometimes he would read off the paper plate spinning it completely around because he had written notes all around tthe rim. One time he was taking notes on a paper plate and ran out of room. He asked me to bring him something else to write on so i handed him a paper cup. Then he gets mad and says that's not funny. I thought I was doing good, there's just no figuring people out.
